Makeup is not cheap and I think we all know that. No matter what high-end makeup is out there, I always gravitate towards the drugstore side. Not only is it affordable but the quality these days are amazing! You just have to know which brands or products are worth reaching for.
When I first started my makeup collection, I had no clue which brands are worth buying. I believe I just looked up drugstore products for beginners, went off that, and then it became an addiction to try out more products. One thing I wish I had known when being a beginner to makeup was which drugstore brands were the best. When I mean the best, I mean the best quality makeup that is affordable.

The 5 Drugstore Brands to start your makeup collection
ESSENCE
After discovering their princess false lash mascara, I fell in love with this brand. People overlook this like they first did with L.A. Girl and look at how that brand turned out. People love L.A. Girl but Essence is a brand that is still being slept on. Some of their best products are their mascaras and lip pencil liners. Their mascara costs less than $4.00 and they give you false lashes without spending the extra minutes applying the fake ones. The waterproof pencil liners come in so many beautiful colors and are long-lasting.
NYX
I recently received this powdered contouring palette on my birthday. I’m obsessed. It includes one illuminator shade, three different shades of a setting powder, and your contouring bronzer shades. I literally use this every day. Some of the other favorites that I use are the Epic liner, lip pencils, eyebrow pencils, so on and so forth. You really cannot go wrong with this brand. It’s a high-quality brand branded as a drugstore product. They can be affordable. When I first started, $10 for an eyebrow pencil wasn’t really in my budget but if your willing to splurge for the quality drugstore product, this brand is the best one to choose from.
BH COSMETICS
BH Cosmetics has been around for years. This was the first company I started to explore different eyeshadow shades. From bolds to neutrals, these eyeshadows are pigmented! The shadows that are seen in the photo above were $16 and to me, that’s a steal considering how many shadows you get! For a starter, if you’re looking for some high-quality shadows take a look at this brand!
MORPHE
Is this even considered a drugstore brand? This brand just feels like a high-end! From eyeshadows, highlighters, to even the lip mattes I am shook over the pigmentation and the quality of their products. There hasn’t been a product yet that disappointed me. I love how they collab with influencers and come out with amazing quality shadows. My husband had recently bought me their galactic highlighters. So far, this highlighter palette is in use daily!
L’OREAL
L’OREAL is my OG favorite! The first time I was ever really into makeup, this was the first brand I explored with. If I could be an advocate for them, I would. Their infallible line is my favorite. Not one infallible product has disappointed me and that says a whole lot about this brand.
There are so many great drugstore brands out there today. It was a bit difficult for me to make this post when I had so much to choose from. After looking at my makeup collection it was clear that these 5 brands were my top favorites. You definitely can’t go wrong with these affordable brands!
