There’s something undeniably special about peanut butter blossoms — a timeless treat loved by both kids and adults alike. This holiday season, I decided to experiment with different sugar coatings, choosing festive red, green, and classic sugar to capture the perfect Christmas feel. The result? Beautiful, delicious cookies that not only taste amazing but make the sweetest gift for any occasion. After plenty of trial and error, I finally perfected a recipe that everyone can enjoy. These cookies are irresistibly soft, rich in peanut butter flavor, and melt perfectly in your mouth — because let’s be honest, what’s a cookie if it doesn’t?
How to make homemade peanut butter blossoms
First and foremost, I went to Target to gather all of the items I will need. Fortunately, I had all of the other ingredients I would need in my kitchen. These items include eggs, brown and regular sugar, vanilla extract, baking soda, all-purpose flour, salt, parchment paper, and peanut butter. As long as you have at least 1/2 cup of peanut butter available, you should be good to go!
Other than that, I definitely needed the chocolate kisses, as seen below. I chose two types and you most definitely can just stick with the milk chocolate ones. I came across the betty crocker sprinkles which I included as a sugar coat to make the cookies more festive! You definitely can stick with just the regular sugar!

It’s prep time! Start by preheating your oven to 350°F and lining your baking sheets with parchment paper.
While the oven heats up, unwrap the chocolates and set them aside. This is also the perfect time to prepare your bowls of sugar for coating the peanut butter dough. Feel free to get creative — the colored sugars are completely optional but add a fun, festive touch!

Next, grab your mixing bowl and electric mixer. Begin by creaming together the butter, peanut butter, and both sugars until the mixture is light and well combined. Add the egg and continue mixing until smooth.
Then, mix in the flour, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt. As everything comes together, you’ll notice the mixture thickening into a soft dough-just what you need for the next step.

Now that your dough is ready, line your baking pan with parchment paper. Scoop about 1½ tablespoons of dough and roll it into a smooth ball, then coat it evenly in sugar.
Place each dough ball on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a couple of inches between them to allow room for spreading.
And now for the best part — it’s time to bake!

Bake the cookies on the middle rack for about 12 minutes, or until the bottoms turn lightly golden. The cookies should have a soft, dome-like shape when ready. As soon as you remove them from the oven, gently press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie while they’re still hot. Be careful not to touch the sides to avoid leaving fingerprints.
In my opinion, classic milk chocolate kisses work best for this recipe. White chocolate versions don’t hold their shape as well (as shown below), but they’re still delicious and fun to try!
These cookies are incredibly easy to make and such a joy to bake — especially with kids. My little helpers loved rolling the dough and coating the cookies in sugar most of all. I hope you enjoy making (and eating!) them just as much as we did. Let me know if you try this recipe in the comments below!
