Peanut butter blossoms are truly one of the most pleasurable treats for all ages. I started to play around with different sugar coatings and since it was Christmas time I chose red, green, and plain sugar coating for my cookies. Not only did they come out delicious, they definitely fit the Christmas vibe I was going for. Not to mention, it makes a lovely treat to give to others on any occasion!
After trial and error, I have perfected the best recipe that everyone can enjoy! They are super peanut buttery and soft! It’s definitely not a good cookie if it just doesn’t melt in your mouth. Am I right?
So let’s get down to the specifics!
How to make homemade peanut butter blossoms
First and foremost, I went to Target to gather all of the items I will need. Fortunately, I had all of the other ingredients I would need in my kitchen. These items include eggs, brown and regular sugar, vanilla extract, baking soda, all-purpose flour, salt, parchment paper, and peanut butter. As long as you have at least 1/2 cup of peanut butter available, you should be good to go!
Other than that, I definitely needed the chocolate kisses, as seen below. I chose two types and you most definitely can just stick with the milk chocolate ones. I came across the betty crocker sprinkles which I included as a sugar coat to make the cookies more festive! You definitely can stick with just the regular sugar!
It is PREP time!! Preheat the oven to 350˚F and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
While the oven is heating, remove the wrappers from the chocolate. I take this time to also prep my bowls with the different kinds of sugar used for coating the peanut butter dough. Remember – the colors are optional!
It’s time to grab your mixing bowl. I use my favorite electric mixer to blend all my ingredients together. Start blending first the butter, peanut butter, and both sugars in a bowl with your mixer until well combined. Then add in the egg and continue to blend until smooth. Now add in the flour, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt. Your dough will then start to get thicker into the dough we need to perform our next step.
Now that our dough is ready, it is time to grab your parchment sheet and place that on the baking pan. Create your cookie dough in a ball form measuring about 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough, then coat it with sugar. It’s ideal to place the balls on the prepared baking sheet a couple of inches apart. Now it’s time for the final step. It’s time to BAKE!!
Bake the cookies on the middle rack for about 12 minutes. The rule of thumb is to wait until golden on the bottom. Your cookies will have like a dome shape. Immediately once taken out, it is time to press those chocolate kisses in the center of each cookie while it is HOT. Remember to not touch the sides to prevent the cookie from leaving an imprint.
In my option, the regular milk chocolate kisses are way better for this recipe. The white/chocolate does not keep its shape well as seen below. But, nonetheless, it still was delicious according to the family!
These were super easy to make and honestly, it was so much fun to experience the whole baking process with my kids. They loved helping! Coating the cookies with sugar, was their favorite! I hope you enjoy it! Let me know if you tried this down below!!
